Upon first glance, the AAXA L1 could be confused with an outdated mobile phone, but don’t be fooled. This little piece of ingeniousness gadgetry doubles up as both a pico project and media player.

Unlike most pico projectors that we’ve seen recently like the 3M MPro150, the L1 uses a laser-driven diode instead of the more common LED. The benefits are all in the specs – 20 lumens powering out 800×600 pixels or up to 50-inch images.

Unfortunately, the L1 doesn’t overcome the same problem seen in other pico projectors – storage size. It features a meager 160MB of internal memory, but can access USB storage devices. You might be pleased to know that a 2GB one is included.

Don’t expect support for your open formats with support for AVI, ASF, WMV, and MPG video files; MP3, WAV, and AAC audio files; JPG, GIF, PNG, and BMP image files.

Currently available for pre-order through the manufacturer, the L1 will set you back a hefty $599. We have been advised of a February 12th shipping date.
