cowon v5 hd video

The Cowon V5 HD which is slated for a Korea-only release has been the most popular music device recently just short of the iRiver Smart HD. Ironic considering that the majority of audiophobes will neither get to lay hands nor eyes on this beautiful piece of equipment.

Guess what, fanboys? We have a video review of the new V5 HD in all its splendor.

After viewing the video below, you get a great sense of how seriously powerful and capable Cowon’s V5 really is. We get a good glimpse into the accompanying video player and DMB tuner including WiFi configuration.  We won’t forget to mention the photo browser and usual file manager that we come to expect from a Windows device.

cowon j3 player

Just short of the iRiver K1, the Cowon J3 has received some significant online attention. We first brought you news about the upcoming player a few weeks ago when a rear-view diagram of the player was leaked to the web.

Well, a few more specs of the mysterious player have been leaked.

The J3 is to feature a WQVGA display stretching 3.3-inches (480 x 272 pixels). Like the K1, the J3 is to be coupled with some wireless goodness.

Other specs already known are the choice of 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB storage capacities and the in-built DMB tuner. No word on availability nor a release date, but we suspect that your favorite Asian tech site will be publishing images soon.

Cowon V5 is Windows CE driven

cowon v5

Cowon has made a formal announcement of the Cowon V5 which comes shortly after a promotional video of the player was leaked onto the internet.  Unfortunately, all of our enthusiasm for this gem has been deflated after we’ve learned that the V5 is driven by Microsoft’s Windows CE 6.0.

The device packs a 4.8-inch screen and is available in either 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB – we can’t ignore the SD expansion slot. But, the big news is the HD support (720p).  Not only can the player handle HD file format’s, but it also comes fitted with HDMI and composite output.

Video file support is beyond belief with AVI, WMV, ASF, MP4 , MKV, MPG / MPEG, DAT, TS, TP, TRP, and 3GP video files supported amongst MP3, WMA, OGG, AAC, FLAC, APE, and WAV audio formats.  The player handles a host of other file formats including JPEG, BMP, GIF, PNG, TXT, PDF, PPT, XLS, and HTML formats.

Falling just short of a netbook, the V5 includes an image viewer, voice recorder, text reader, calculator, metric converter, world clock, DMB-tuner, and games.

If you thought that Cowon E30 was light on power, consider that the V5 is capable of 45 hours of continuous audio or 10 hours of continuous video.

Available in a choice of silver, pink, black, and white, the V5 will retail initially in Korea only for the respectable price of roughly $257, $299, and $342 USD for the 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB respectively.

Cowon J3 reveals another marketing blunder

written by Craig Matthews on Dec 20th, 2009

Cowon is now more notorious for its marketing blunders than its awe-inspiring media players. First we had the leaked video promo of the Cowon V5 that was subsequently removed from YouTube. Now we have a revelation of a new player dubbed the Cowon J3.

On par with the S9, the J3 is said to pack an AMOLED screen in 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB capacities. Oh yes, we won’t forget the DMB tuner nor the WiFi. WiFi? Yes, maybe it has one up on the S9…

Cowon V5 HD surfaces but remains a mystery

written by Gavin Smith on Dec 7th, 2009

Cowon have already released a host of exciting players this year including the i9 and E2, but their most exciting player, dubbed the Cowon V5 HD, seems the most impressive by far.

Unfortunately, all we have to go on is a leaked, non-English promotional video from the marketing gurus at Cowon. If the name is anything to go on, we should be expecting a video-capable device with HD capabilities.

The news will be most unwelcome for the likes of Onda who, although not recognized in the West, have pushed out several players with the lucrative HD title.

cowon iaudio 9 opened

In attempt to understand what is under the hood, one brave consumer has decided to open up butcher his new Cowon iAudio 9. If you’re one who does not easily part with his money, we suggest you look away. While the i9 is a quality piece of gadgetry, it is always startling to see how few parts comprise a player. Yup, the entire player is comprised of 3 main pieces – the PCB, outer-shell, and the battery.

Cowon iAudio 9 battery

Capable of 7 hours of video, the iAudio 9’s battery is driven by a 3.7V/510mAh battery. Consuming almost half the player, it’s still a wonder why the battery lacks the much need va va voom.

Wisely, there wasn’t the urge to dismantle the LCD display. The screen cable and input jacks are clearly visible once the PCB is removed from its case.

Video review of Cowon E2

written by Gavin Smith on Nov 24th, 2009

The guys over at AnythingButiPod have provided a video review of the snazzy Cowon E2.  The producer touts the E2 as “definitely, the best screenless MP3 player” they’ve come across. These folks aren’t the only ones to give the Cowon E2 admirable reviews since the player’s release at the beginning of the month.

And what’s not to love? The E2 is the ultimate iPod Shuffle crusher. It features outstanding sound technologies for improved audio output all in a device the size of a key-ring. Yes, it lacks a clip, so think about investing in a necklace (not included). Where the iPod fails, the E2 includes actual buttons for volume and skipping tracks.

Enough rambling. Give AnythingButiPod some love by checking out their full review after you have checked out the video.

Cowon iAudio 9 – video of interface

written by Gavin Smith on Nov 20th, 2009

The Cowon iAudio 9 is still as popular as ever, having been released around two weeks ago.  The user interface has remained somewhat of a mystery.  Unfortunately, images only allow us to gauge so much.

With the combination of a sliding tactile control and a 2-inch TFT display, the player provides for an interesting interface. In fact, the interface almost feels like a fully-fledged touchscreen display, but who are they fooling?

Being as blind as I am, the 2-inch display still feels too small for those epic videos. If you enjoyed the i9’s unboxing, this will be the ultimate treat.
