iRiver K1 (Smart HD) lego cradle

There has been little or no word of the highly-sought-after iriver K1 receiving a US release. That’s not holding some people back. One particular iriver enthusiast has decided to keep himself busy during the wait by constructing a semi-branded cradle for the iriver K1…out of LEGO.

While not quite as impressive as the LEGO MP3 players that we’ve come across, this piece of creativity does have its own “coolness” factor. If you wish to construct your own variation, catch a look at the video below.

iRiver N15 announced, looks familiar

You might recall the once hyped iRiver N20, the player that never got to see a stateside release. In a bit of a surprise, the N20 has received a cousin dubbed the iRiver N15. Most consumers won’t be able to tell the difference. In fact, we’re struggling ourselves.

Most of the player’s specs have remained unaltered including the storage sizes (2GB/4GB), tiny PMOLED-display, dimensions (26×55.5×13 mm), FM tuner, and colors (Black and Black only).

What you do lose is 3 hours of overall battery life to give you 12 instead of 15, support for OGG, and iRiver’s trademark IESE (iRiver Extreme Sound Engine) sound technology.

The device is expected to hit store shelves in March. If the N20 is anything to go on, don’t expect a US release.

iRiver Smart HD K1 gets hands-on look

iriver smart hd windows ce

iRiver made its announcement of the iRiver Smart HD only days ago, and already some lucky individuals have managed to get a hands-on look at iRiver’s newest player. Guess what? It’s all been recorded in the form of a video.

No word on where the video was shot – we have been holding hope for a January release date, but it appears that our hope just may become a reality.

Changing note, we get a good glimpse at the K1 including all the bells and whistles. Unfortunately, I struggle to get over the fact that the K1 is a Windows CE driven device. Some of the shots of the desktop are reminiscent of the long-gone days of Windows 2000.

Enough babbling, catch the video…

iRiver Smart HD receives official announcement

The iRiver K1 or Smart HD might have been leaked days ago, but iRiver have taken it upon itself to officially announce the new iRiver Smart HD.  We already know most of the nitty-gritty, but a few more details have emerged of the upcoming player.

Firstly, the media player will come in only two different storage options – 8GB an 16GB. This is a far cry from the 32GB that we come to expect; fear not, the player does feature an SDHC slot.

Most surprising is the fact that the Smart HD will come in four different flavors dubbed the Basic Edition, DMB Edition, Edu Edition, and the DMB-WiFi edition.

iRiver ‘Smart HD’ (K1) is outed

iriver k1 smart-hd

The iRiver K1 has been unveiled at CES 2010. All we had to go on previously was a ‘Proof of Certification’ approved via the Telecommunications Commission of Korea for its WiFi capability. K1 is merely the company’s internal product codename and in fact, the product will be sold as the iRiver Smart HD.

The Smart HD PMP packs a 3.5-inch screen (480 × 320 pixels), yet storage capacity remains unknown. File support is respectable with support for support for MKV, Mpeg4, XVID, WMV, and H.264 video formats and a host of other HD formats.

Connectivity is the name of the game with this PMP because the device packs a WiFi 802.11g integrated wireless card for use with the player’s Internet browser.

The big surprise is the announcement of iRiver’s “Open API UCI (User Created Interface)” which is iRiver’s end-user SDK for widget development. The new SDK will allow users to share/distribute applications through an Internet portal.

Additional features incorporated into the device include a DMB-TV tuner, FM tuner, E-book reader, white board, calculator, voice recorder and a host of other applications.

The device is expected to be available at the end of January.

News of the iRiver E30 hitting China went down quite a storm, and we weren’t even sure whether to expect a US release. The fate of the player with its infamous 52-hour-capable battery has become just that much clearer.

iRiver’s latest device has been spotted on shopping giant, Amazon. Both the 4GB and 8GB versions are available for $59 an $79 which are within our expectations of the $66 that we had previously estimated. No sign of the 2GB version, but that should arrive within time…

iRiver E30 player

I’m sure you remember the irresistible iRiver E30, the player that caught our eye with its whopping 52 hour audio playback ability. The player, reminiscent of the iPod nano and the cousin to the iRiver E50, is hitting Chinese retailers as we speak.

Not only do we have the latest photos, but we can confirm some of the features incorporated into the device that were previously unknown.

The device will be available in three different storage capacities: 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB. If you’re still a fan of radio, the E30 includes an FM tuner. Not only can the player record broadcasts, but one of our sources informs us that it can “record videos” too. Lastly, we can’t forget about the photo viewer.

The player includes a MiniUSB interface for music transfer and a 3.5mm audio jack for your favorite headphones.

No word if we should expect a stateside release. As such, no word on price; however, the player will retail in Israel for 250 New Israeli Shekels (or ~$66).

iriver K1 comes closer to reality

written by Gavin Smith on Oct 31st, 2009

It looks like the mysterious iriver K1 (also known as the iriver P50) is a step closer to being unveiled.  We last revealed that the K1 would feature a 3.5-inch touchscreen with integrated WiFi.

The WiFi-capable K1 has since received approval via the Telecommunications Commission of Korea.  ‘Proof of Certification’ as seen below verifies the WiFi capabilities of the upcoming device.

No word on a release date, yet we can be rest assured that those fortunate Koreans will be able to get their hands on the device before the end of the year.  The rest of us will likely have to wait until the new year. More specs please…

Let’s not forget about the iriver K2. While the Teclast T58 might be the first Android PMP, it is in for some competition.  The K2, set to be powered by the Google OS, is anticipated for release in the new year.
