In attempt to understand what is under the hood, one brave consumer has decided to open up butcher his new Cowon iAudio 9. If you’re one who does not easily part with his money, we suggest you look away. While the i9 is a quality piece of gadgetry, it is always startling to see how few parts comprise a player. Yup, the entire player is comprised of 3 main pieces – the PCB, outer-shell, and the battery.

Capable of 7 hours of video, the iAudio 9’s battery is driven by a 3.7V/510mAh battery. Consuming almost half the player, it’s still a wonder why the battery lacks the much need va va voom.

Wisely, there wasn’t the urge to dismantle the LCD display. The screen cable and input jacks are clearly visible once the PCB is removed from its case.

A good shot of the PCB shows us the engine under the hood. The i9 uses a Samsung flash memory chip and a WM8750 decoder chip, the workhorse behind the player.
