Cowon have left us short of an official release this time instead opting to upload their new PMP directly onto their website. The product page devoted solely to the new technological masterpiece showcases the new Cowon J3 in all its splendor.
The best news is that we no longer have to keep guessing about the much hyped player.
The J3 will feature a slick 3.3-inch AMOLED touchscreen with accelerometer complimented by tactile-like buttons for frequently-accessed features and the standard fast-forward/rewind and volume controls.
Available in either 4, 8, 16 or 32GB, the J3 comes packed with Bluetooth, JetEffects effects 3.0 technology for an improved audible experience, and a TV output line. Unfortunately, those wireless rumors that we first reported appear to be just that – ‘rumors’. The default storage size is expandable via the microSD slot.
The unit is compatible with a whole host of file types including MP3, WMA, OGG, FLAC, APE and WAV for audio and DivX, XviD and WMV for video.
The battery capabilities of this device only underline the beef that this player carries – we’re talking about continuous playback of up to 64 hours of audio or 11 hours of video. Packing a lot of clout, the J3’s weight of 76 grams is rather modest and considering the 3.3-inch display, the player’s dimensions (106.5 x 56 x 9.9 mm) just make the mark.
South Koreans will be fortunate enough to get their hands on the device at the end of the month, but the rest of us are yet to receive an official release date.

Great. I was just about to buy the S9 this very weekend! I guess I should wait – I mean, seems the J3 is an upgrade of the S9: same features but better performance in a new box. That’s it, right? Man, I’m tired of my clix. I need COWON. No, really. Should I wait?

You make a good point. After further investigation, I cannot see too many differences. The biggest advantage I see with the J3 is that you’ll get your hands on the JetEffects technology. It will be interesting if the battery specs are any different…
