The iRiver K1 has been unveiled at CES 2010. All we had to go on previously was a ‘Proof of Certification’ approved via the Telecommunications Commission of Korea for its WiFi capability. K1 is merely the company’s internal product codename and in fact, the product will be sold as the iRiver Smart HD.
The Smart HD PMP packs a 3.5-inch screen (480 × 320 pixels), yet storage capacity remains unknown. File support is respectable with support for support for MKV, Mpeg4, XVID, WMV, and H.264 video formats and a host of other HD formats.
Connectivity is the name of the game with this PMP because the device packs a WiFi 802.11g integrated wireless card for use with the player’s Internet browser.
The big surprise is the announcement of iRiver’s “Open API UCI (User Created Interface)” which is iRiver’s end-user SDK for widget development. The new SDK will allow users to share/distribute applications through an Internet portal.
Additional features incorporated into the device include a DMB-TV tuner, FM tuner, E-book reader, white board, calculator, voice recorder and a host of other applications.
The device is expected to be available at the end of January.
