The iRiver K1 or Smart HD might have been leaked days ago, but iRiver have taken it upon itself to officially announce the new iRiver Smart HD. We already know most of the nitty-gritty, but a few more details have emerged of the upcoming player.
Firstly, the media player will come in only two different storage options – 8GB an 16GB. This is a far cry from the 32GB that we come to expect; fear not, the player does feature an SDHC slot.
Most surprising is the fact that the Smart HD will come in four different flavors dubbed the Basic Edition, DMB Edition, Edu Edition, and the DMB-WiFi edition.
- Basic Edition: Available in 8GB
- DMB Edition: Available in 8GB with the added benefit of DMB
- Edu Edition: Available in 16GB featuring an in-built dictionary in 11 different languages
- DMB-WiFi Edition: Available in a 16GB capacity featuring both DMB and WiFi
No touchscreen player is complete without an accelerometer, or so we’re lead to believe. At full charge, expect a battery life of 18 hours of continuous audio or 6 hours of continuous video.
Additional features incorporated into the device include an FM tuner, picture browser, voice recorder, flash 3 support, address book, calendar, and Outlook synchronization. We won’t forget the support for some of those popular file formats including PDF, XLS, PPT, and TXT amongst others.
The player’s dimensions/weight are favorable – 108 × 62.1 × 12.7 mm and weighing about 120 grams. We’re still holding hope for a January release date. In the meantime, enjoy the pictures…
