Denmark is not a country that you would associate with being a tech producer, but Owen are looking to change all that with their new Owen ONN V2 media player. Unfortunately, Owen’s latest player does not sport the most original design instead it screams, “iPod!” – an attempt to stick with what works.
Marketed as resembling a business card, the V2 is equipped with a 1.5-inch TFT screen which may be a bit small if you are to take advantage of the AVI video support.
The player features a control button which is not only conveniently placed like the iPod but almost resembles the Classic’s scroll wheel.
The Danish player does have one over on its iPod counterpart when it comes to thickness/depth. At less than the the thickness of an adult human finger, its dimensions of 82 × 42 × 6.8mm makes it suitable for pockets, bags and purses alike.
Open source/format supporters will be pleased to know that they can add another player to the list of device’s supporting FLAC. Additional supported file types include MP3, WMA, WAV, and the proprietary and lossless APE format.
In keeping with an environmentally-friendly ethos, the V2 does away with your traditional Lithium batteries. Instead, the device incorporates a second-generation SLPC energy-saving technology that allows for 11 hours of continuous audio playback. A combination of the “green battery” and the ultra-thin design does hamper the life of the battery’s charge.
Overall, a great little player, but let’s just hope that next time the Danes come up with their own design. No information in relation to price nor release date(s) is known.
