While we were excited to get our first glimpse of the NWZ-S540, Sony’s latest player, the NWZ-E440K, takes our excitement a step further. An MP3 player that many will confuse with an alarm clock is being dubbed as Sony’s newest “entry-level” Walkman player.
The E440K consists of an accompanying docking station available in a coordinated choice of black or pink – yes, not much choice. White anyone?
Similar to its S540 counterpart, the E440K is being touted for its adoption of ground-breaking audio technology for increased audio quality. The player is packed with a digital linear phase speaker system as an alternative to headphone-listening allowing users to listen to music in more than one way.
The E-series player is fitted with a standard 2-inch QVGA LCD supporting 30fps video playback. Battery life is admirable with a continuous 30 hours for audio or 6 hours of video on a single charge. Available in either a flash-based 8GB or 16GB capacity, the player supports a wide variety of file formats including MPEG-4/H264.
Mac fanboys will be pleased to know Sony’s latest creation is compatible with iTunes 8.1 and higher. Additional features/accessories include an FM tuner with record functionality, a silicone sleeve for storage, a sports armband, and a charging cradle.
Available from next month, the E440K will retail for $80 and $100 for the 8GB and 16GB models, respectively.
